Passion!
I think I found my passion! Most people won't find their 'passion' their whole lives but I think I finally found at least one of them..... Spinning and weaving. For some reason this city girl from a country town never got introduced to wool. I live in a small town in Wyoming. And when I say small town I mean a town of about 2500. It seemed pretty big to me while growing up. It was and still is the biggest town in our county. But now that I have visited the likes of Chicago, Nashville, San Francisco, Paris and London, yeah, well, it's not so big.
I was never involved with animals during 'fair' time. My grandfather had a farm in the nearest town and we got to collect eggs from the chicken coop and ride his horses, but I never got to be around sheep. Now I love those animals, not enough to sell my house, buy a small farm and raise sheep for their wool. I usually get my wool off of amazon.
I work in a small school and one of the first graders was so excited. He wanted me to have the wool from his lamb when they take it down to fair. I am not sure how it will all turn out but I am hoping that I will be able to turn his wool into a nice scarf that I can give him for Christmas.j
Anyway, today I dyed some wool on the stovetop so I can finish a piece of woven material that will hopefully become either a skirt or a jacket. We shall see.
These pictures will chronicle the process. First we start with white merino wool. I love this stuff! Not scratchy, each hair is about 5 inches long so it is super nice to spin.
Next, after getting the wool, I dyed it blue, I was going for navy or dark blue but ended up with the variegated blue color and will also work. The thing about creating, is that plans change and expectations have to change too.
So then it goes on the loom.
